Open Awards Functional Skills English Entry Level 1, 2, 3 Past Papers

Open Awards Functional Skills English Entry Level 1, 2 and 3 exams are partitioned into two sections, Reading and Writing. The Reading section of your Open awards Functional Skills Entry Level exam assesses your ability to extract information from multiple types and styles of texts, while for the Writing section, you will need to form your own texts, which will allow the assessor to gauge your literary capability, as well as your spelling, punctuation and grammar.

The allocation of time and marks in exams is as below:

  • Entry Level 1:
    • Reading – 40 minutes, 12 marks
    • Reading Pass Mark – 8 marks
    • Writing – 40 minutes, 30 marks
    • Writing Pass Mark – 19 marks
  • Entry Level 2:
    • Reading – 45 minutes, 16 marks
    • Reading Pass Mark – 10 marks
    • Writing – 45 minutes, 34 marks
    • Writing Pass Mark – 22 marks
  • Entry Level 3:
    • Reading – 45 minutes, 18 marks
    • Reading Pass Mark – 12 marks
    • Writing – 50 minutes, 36 marks
    • Writing Pass Mark – 24 marks

For Open Awards Functional Skills English exams, reading papers allow you to use a suitable dictionary, but writing papers do not.
