Highfield Functional Skills English Level 2 Past Papers

The Highfield Qualifications Functional Skills English Level 2 exam is split into multiple papers – a reading paper and a writing paper. The reading paper consists of multiple choice questions and written answer questions, and tests your ability to analyse sources. Some questions on this paper ask you to state or infer information from sources, while others ask you to compare sources or even analyse linguistic features. The writing paper consists of two extended questions of equal length, and you are assessed both on writing skill and spelling, punctuation and grammar.

What topic areas are covered in the exam?

The Highfield Qualifications Functional Skills English Level 2 exam assesses the following three skills:

  1. Reading
  2. Writing
  3. Spelling, punctuation and grammar

There are 30 marks available for reading, 30 marks available for writing, and 24 marks available for spelling, punctuation and grammar. However, marks are scaled to make each paper worth a third of the qualification, so a good base of skills in all areas is crucial to success.

Candidates for the Highfield Qualifications Functional Skills English Level 2 exam must also complete a speaking, listening and communicating controlled assessment to obtain the qualification.
