Functional Skills English Level 2 Past Papers
Functional Skills English Level 2 is equivalent to a pass at GCSE (grade 4 or grade C). It, or an equivalent qualification, is required to pass onto many higher level qualifications such as those offered at colleges or universities, and it is also required for a number of professions. All exam boards use the same specification for Functional Skills English Level 2, that is based on the assessment of these three skills:
- Reading
- Writing
- Speaking, Listening and Communication
The structure the level 2 English test can vary between exam boards. All exam boards have two papers, one for reading and one for writing, where spelling, punctuation and grammar are assessed in the writing paper. The reading paper consists of questions pertaining to a number of sources that are presented to the learner at the start of the exam, and the writing paper consists of a small number of long questions, each requiring an extended response. The amount of time allowed for each paper, and the number of marks available for each paper, as well as how many marks are available for each skill, vary considerably between exam boards.
