Functional Skills English Level 1 Past Papers
Functional Skills English Level 1 is equivalent to a GCSE grade of 2-3 (E-D in the legacy system). Functional Skills English Level 1 is often a requirement for college and university courses, as well as being a necessity for some professions. Furthermore, Functional Skills English Level 1 offers a stepping stone to Level 2 qualifications and beyond. Every exam board follows the same specification for English Functional Skills Level 1, which is based on assessment of these three key skills:
- Reading
- Writing
- Speaking, Listening and Communication
The structure of level 1 English exams with each exam board varies substantially. On all exam boards, there is a reading paper and a writing paper, and spelling, punctuation, and grammar are assessed on the writing paper. On every exam board, the reading paper will ask questions about analysis of sources, while the writing paper will contain only a handful of questions, requiring long-form written responses. However, the timings for each paper, the distribution of marks, and how much of your grade comes from each of the three skills, is different between each exam board. Understanding these differences is essential for success in your English level 1 exam.
