Functional Skills Resits

If you don’t pass a Functional Skills exam, you can book a resit online and sit it from home, the same way as your first exam. With Functional Skills English you only resit the part you didn’t pass, and if you booked the Premium Course Bundle, your resit is free.

How Functional Skills resits work

1. Get your results. Your results email tells you which exam or part you didn’t pass.
2. Book your resit. Use the Book a Resit button in your results email, or call us on 020 4574 9155.
3. Choose your date. Pick a date when you feel ready, just as you did for your first exam.
4. Sit it from home. The resit is the same online exam, with the same invigilation and results times.

Maths resits

Functional Skills maths is one exam, with a non-calculator section and a calculator section. If you don’t pass, you resit the whole exam. Look at which questions cost you marks, then revise those topics before you book: the Functional Skills Maths Level 2 page has free revision for every topic.

English resits: only the part you need

Functional Skills English has three parts: reading, writing, and speaking, listening and communicating (SLC). Each part is passed separately, and the parts you pass carry forward. So if you passed reading and SLC but not writing, you only resit writing. You can book a single part on its own, for example the English level 2 SLC exam.

Free resits with the Premium Course Bundle

On the exam pages you can book the exam on its own, with the Basic Course Bundle (3 months of course access) or with the Premium Course Bundle (12 months of course access and a free resit; for English, a free resit of a part). If you have the Premium bundle and don’t pass, your resit costs nothing. 93% of learners who complete the Pass Functional Skills course pass their exam.

How to pass your resit

• Find your weak areas. Take the initial assessment on our online course to see which topics to work on.
• Practise with past papers. Use the free Functional Skills past papers and mark schemes for your exam board.
• Do timed mock exams. The course’s AI-marked mock exams show when you’re ready to rebook.
• Know the pass mark. See the maths level 2 pass mark and English level 2 pass mark by exam board.
