Edexcel Functional Skills Maths Level 1 Past Papers
The Edexcel (Pearson) Functional Skills Maths Level 1 exam comes in two parts: Section A and Section B. Section A is much shorter, contains questions that are considered to be simpler, and does not need a calculator. Section B is much longer, contains much more difficult questions, and requires the use of a calculator. Both exams require equipment including a pen, a pencil, a rubber, a ruler, a protractor, a pair of compasses and tracing paper.

What topic areas are covered in the exam?
The Edexcel (Pearson) Functional Skills Maths Level 1 exam assesses learners on three content areas:
- Using Numbers and the Number System
- Using Common Measures, Shapes and Space
- Handling Information and Data
25% of the marks come from underpinning skills, while 75% of the marks come from problem solving. It is important to show your working, particularly for problem solving questions, as several marks may be contingent on evidence of the correct method being applied.
