What topic areas are covered in the exam?

The writing exam consists of two tasks, with both tasks worth 27 marks each. Therefore, learners are advised to spend 30 minutes on each task, including planning and checking.

Out of the 54 marks available in the exam, 30 marks is awarded for composition of your answer and 24 marks is awarded for spelling, punctuation and grammar.

There are three texts to read on the reading exam (included within the exam), which you will be required to answer questions about in the exam. The total number of marks available is 35, with no marks being awarded for spelling, punctuation and grammar.

Candidates for NOCN Functional Skills English Level 2 will also be expected to sit a speaking, listening and communicating exam.
