Open Awards Functional Skills English Level 1 Past Papers
The Open Awards Functional Skills English Level 1 qualification is a functional skills assessment that is taken remotely. Candidates are assessed using their online exams portal, but the structure of the exams is the same as for a written qualification. There are two papers – one reading paper and one writing paper. The reading paper measures how well a learner can analyse sources, posing questions about source material that is presented to the candidate in the exam. The writing paper is composed of two long-form questions, both requiring an extended response, where writing skill is assessed alongside spelling, punctuation and grammar.
