What topic areas are covered in the exam?
Both questions in paper 2 are worth 20 marks, so candidates are advised to spend 30 minutes on each question.
Three skills are assessed in the NCFE Functional Skills English Level 1 exam:
- Reading
- Writing
- Spelling, punctuation and grammar
There are 30 marks available for reading, 22 marks available for writing and 18 marks available for spelling, punctuation and grammar, so all three skills are crucial for exam success.
A third of the NCFE Functional Skills English Level 1 exam comes from the completion of a speaking, listening and communicating assessment.
