Open Awards Functional Skills English Level 2 Past Papers
The Open Awards Functional Skills English Level 2 exam is an online functional skills exam. Candidates are given access to the exam portal, and sit the exam from home over an internet connection. The structure of the exam is the same as offline exams: two exams, one reading and one writing. The reading exam focuses on analysis of sources, posing questions about the content, linguistic features and comparisons of sources. The writing exam asks two questions, each of which require a long-form written solution.

Both questions on paper 2 are worth 30 marks, so candidates are encouraged to take 30 minutes on each task.
The Open Awards Functional Skills English Level 2 exam assesses the following skills:
- Reading
- Writing
- Spelling, punctuation and grammar
There are 30 marks available for reading, 36 marks available for writing, and 24 marks available for spelling, punctuation and grammar. This means that skill in all of these areas is essential for exam success.
To complete the Open Awards Functional Skills English Level 2 exam, candidates will also participate in a speaking, listening and communication controlled assessment.
