Practise Extracting Information

A good way to practise your ability to extract relevant information is to…
- Listen to the news or a podcast.
- From the heading/title, decide one thing you want to find out by the end of it.
- Listen and try to focus specifically on finding that information.
- If you don’t have the information by the end, listen to it again to check that you haven’t missed it.
- Sometimes the information you wanted to find out may not even be in the audio at all!
- Think of some possible questions that you could ask, based on what you have learnt.
Becoming familiar with this technique is important – practising will help you to develop your listening skills.
