Pre-Exam Questionnaire


1. You understand that you must use either Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge for your exam. You should ensure that you have the most up-to-date version of your chosen browser downloaded before your exam. *


2. You are aware that you must be ready with any required materials 30 minutes before the exam start time. *


3. You will have your photographic ID (passport/signed UK photocard driving license/Citizen Card) ready for the ID check. *


4. You understand that no exam will go ahead without your photographic ID, which must bear your image, full name and date of birth and be in-date. *


5. You understand that if you require headphones or hearing aids, you will need to inform Pass Functional Skills at least three days before your exam. You are aware that wireless headphones are not permitted to be used. *


6. You will need a suitable device to take your exam on, which can either be a laptop or PC. Your device must have a minimum screen size of 13 inches (measured diagonally from corner to corner) and must run Windows 8 or higher. *


7. You understand that you cannot take your exam on a tablet, phone, Macbook or Chromebook. *


8. You understand that your internet speed must be at least 5 MB/s download and 5 MB/s upload and that if your connection is too weak for the exam to go ahead, the exam will need to be rearranged and you will incur a fee starting at £24.*


9. You are aware that mobile internet, hotspots and dongles are not allowed. *


10. You will make sure that pop-ups are enabled on your device. *


11. You understand that you will be required to share your screen during your online exam, so will make sure that you are comfortable doing this on video calls beforehand. *


12. Your webcam and microphone must be enabled and working. *


13. You are aware that you are allowed a pen or pencil and plain paper for working out. *


14. If you are sitting a maths exam, a non-scientific calculator is permitted. *


15. If you are sitting an English reading exam, you may use a dictionary. This cannot be a bi-lingual dictionary or a dictionary/thesaurus combination. *


16. You are aware that you must uninstall Grammarly or any other plug-in that could provide assistance during your exam.*


17. You must disable predictive text in your computer settings. *


18. You are aware that you should ensure that your device is set to a UK time zone. *


19. You are aware that your online exam will occur on the City & Guilds exam software and that the link to access this will be sent to you via email directly from City & Guilds at least 2 working days prior to your exam. You understand that it is important that you keep this email safe in order to access your exam on the day. *


20. You are aware that you should open your exam link in a private or incognito tab on your browser and have read the full Exam Instructions PDF in order to understand how to do this. *


21. You understand that once the invigilator has told you to click ‘Start Session’, a new tab in your browser will open and your keycode and pin will be displayed. You are aware that you need to write these down. *


22. You understand that you will receive your presentation topic for your Speaking, Listening and Communication (SLC) exam by email one week before the exam and that you will need to check your inbox and your spam folder for this. *


23. You must inform Pass Functional Skills of your chosen presentation topic at least 7 days prior to your exam. *


24. You are aware that this exam takes place with other learners and that if you fail to attend or prepare, a rearrangement fee will apply, starting at £99.*


25. You understand that the SLC exam is recorded for standardisation by City & Guilds and that your photographic ID will not be recorded. If you do not consent to this, you must email help@passfunctionalskills.co.uk at least 3 days before your exam day. *


26. You must acknowledge that Pass Functional Skills is not the exam board and so is not responsible for marking the examinations. Examinations are created and marked by City & Guilds. *


27. You understand that the exam must take place in a private room with no interruptions. No one can enter, leave, or remain in the room during the exam (except for approved reasonable adjustments). *


28. You are aware that you will need to remove pets from the room and that this is an exam board requirement to maintain exam conditions. *


29. You understand that the room should be free of posters, books, or visible text on the walls. *


30. You are aware that you should remove/turn off/cover all other technology in the exam room, such as intercoms, wired phones, extra computers, assistive devices (Alexa, Google Home etc) or TVs. *


31. You understand that only one screen is allowed. If you have a second screen, you must remove it from the exam room. *


32. You have read and understand the full Exam Instructions PDF that can be found on your dashboard. *


33. You have read and understood the full Terms & Conditions of Pass Functional Skills, including the exam conduct rules, exam rearrangement terms and complaints, appeals and malpractice and plagiarism policies. *
