Introduction to Functional Skills in Reading
The Functional Skills Level 1 qualifications are Ofqual approved and equivalent to a GCSE Grade C/Level 4/Pass. Across the UK, the majority of universities and companies will accept this GCSE alternative. Additionally, the qualification allows you to apply to a range of jobs and higher education – enabling you to achieve your carer and educational goals.
Unlike the GCSE examinations, Functional Skills exams take place all year round. This means your educational or job progression will not be restricted. Moreover, the Functional Skills content list contains less subject matter, allowing you to learn and revise each topic thoroughly in preparation for your exams.
There are a number of jobs and courses that you can apply for with Functional Skills Level 2 qualification; this includes Policing, Nursing, and Teaching.
Level 2 Courses
In Reading and the surrounding area, you can enroll onto a Functional Skills Level 2 course through a college; many students take this qualification alongside other courses. We recognize that in-person courses are not for everyone, and some learners may have other responsibilities – which is why we provide distance learning courses too. This allows you to work from home and offers you the flexibility of going through the courses at your own pace. Several students find this option effective as they can incorporate their learning easily into their day-to-day routine.
All the Functional Skills qualifications are Ofqual approved and can be used to gain entry into several universities and apprenticeships in the UK.
Level 2 Exams
In addition to booking the course with us, you can book the actual exam through Pass Functional Skills too. There are a number of exam centers in and around Reading, and you have the option to sit the exam from home. Just like distance learning, the at-home online exams allow you to be within the comfort of your own home. The online exam will be over a video call with an Ofqual approved invigilator to ensure the exam runs smoothly and the exam conditions are maintained. Some students have found the Functional Skills exams easier than the GCSE examination. It is dependent on personal preferences; however, the Functional Skills exams incorporate real-life scenarios that students find easier to relate to.
You do have the option of taking the exam without the course. While we recommend our comprehensive and detailed course materials, we do understand that some students feel comfortable taking the exam without the course.
